Thank you to all of our fans who attended our First Annual Pucks & Pom-Poms With Tigers Hockey. We had an excellent crowd and the program appreciates your support!
MASSENA INVITATIONAL: FRIDAY DECEMBER 12 & 13
The Amherst Tigers Varsity Ice Hockey team was scheduled for an overnight trip to Albany but the tournament was cancelled due to a winter storm. The team found a tournament to play in at the last minute and headed to Massena, NY. Massena was the New York State Large School State Champions last season but if Amherst wanted to get a trip in and not lose two games on their schedule, they had to make the trip to play the best in the state. The team made the trip and they gave Massena and Saranac Central everything they had. On Friday night, Massena defeated Amherst 2-0. It was 1-0 in the third period with 7 minutes to go before Massena put the second goal on the board. Amherst goalie Sean Smith played excellent in goal making 29 saves. Massena broadcasted the game on their local radio station and it was great to see what North Country Varsity Ice Hockey is all about. On Saturday, Saranac Central defeated Amherst 3-2. West Genesee was also in the tournament and they were the tournament champions defeating Massena 2-0. It was an excellent trip and a great experience for the varsity team.
