The Amherst Central School District Special Education Goals are developed through the District's Instructional Action Plan (IAP). The IAP is a plan that is required by the Part 200.2 regulations of the Commissioner of Education. The IAP includes a description of the professional development activities that are provided to all staff to assure that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the needs of all students, particularly with the developing standards and related expectations.
At this time, there is a district initiative to address our need for Culturally Responsive Teaching at all levels. We are looking at student data and referral rates (where students are referred, at what grades and what types of pre-referral and intervention strategies have been offered to students and for how long). We are also looking specifically at the provision of appropriate assessments and interventions for students. This is related to regulations centered on “Response to Intervention.” These regulations will help to improve meaningful and timely interventions for students, and build upon the strong instructional model that already exists at Amherst.
District Offices are located in the rear of Amherst Middle School; enter off Saratoga Road. Please enter through black glass doors and take the elevator to the second floor. You will need to register with the reception desk and ask for our office.
