Amherst Central School District Music Department

The Amherst Central School District Music Department Curriculum features Band, Choral/General Music, Orchestral, and Music Theory programs with many award-winning performing ensembles.

In addition to a variety of course offerings during the school year, the Amherst Central School District Music Department offers several extra-curricular ensembles and programs in Band, Orchestra and Chorus, as well as Chamber Music and Jazz.

The Amherst Central School District Music Department adheres to National and New York State curricular standards and is committed to introducing its students to technology and a broad range of musical experiences. At all levels, our ensembles have won numerous awards and continue to win them year after year. In recognition of outstanding achievement, the Amherst Central School District has been selected by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the United States for 2017 and 2018, 2019, and 2020. 

 

The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum.  Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. Our application was submitted with input from all music teachers, and included information about class sizes, extra-curricular offerings, budget, instrumental, choral, and general music curricular offerings, staffing, daily, weekly, and monthly instructional time, as well as parental and community support. 

Thank you to the cadre of music students who give their best effort day in and day out in music and ensemble classes, extracurricular ensembles and a myriad of other offerings. Their daily perseverance and collegial collaboration with the music teachers in the district create sound, professional, proactive, reflective, and thoughtful classroom and extra-curricular instruction that in turn awards our students and parents with the very best that the field of Music Education has to offer. Thank you to parents for your support of the Music program within the district, of the professional music educators in the district, and to our administration and Board of Education who provide our teachers and students with the tools they need to make our district successful.
