What is the Parent Teacher Association?
We are a group of parents/guardians, teachers, staff, administrators and community members who work together to promote the well-being of children in the home, school, community and place of worship. At Windermere, the PTA is comprised of an all volunteer general membership, an Executive Board and an Executive Committee that is elected in April. Membership is open to all parents/guardians, faculty, staff, administrators and anyone interested in supporting the school children through PTA programs.
What is the mission of the PTA?
According to National PTA guidelines, the primary objective of the PTA is to promote the well being of children and youth in the home, school, community and place of worship, and to cooperate with the school in pursuit of its educational mission. Toward that end, the Windermere PTA serves a bridging function, connecting staff, faculty, parents/guardians, children and community organizations across grade levels, across neighborhoods and across purposes.
The Windermere PTA also provides an link to the initiatives and lobbying efforts of the State and National PTAs.
How can I become a member?
Contact the school office for a form, fill out a form and send it in to the PTA mailbox via your child’s backpack or you can mail it to: PTA, Windermere Blvd. Elementary School, 291 Windermere Blvd., Amherst, NY 14226.
How much is membership?
Yearly membership is $5 for an individual and $9 for a family. A FREE WBS PTA student directory is furnished with each membership.
What programs does the PTA sponsor?
The PTA sponsors over 30 programs and events to enrich the WBS community. From the September kick off ice cream social to end of year Moving Up Day for the fifth graders, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
How can I become involved with PTA activities?
There are many ways to get involved. You can become a member. You can attend the general meetings or any of the PTA events. Perhaps you are able to volunteer at an event. Or, you can bring your energy and ideas and see them blossom within our students.
One year single and family memberships are available for a nominal fee during the membership drive that runs from September through March of each year. Flyers will be sent home.
