Coach Karen Redding
I am excited to be returning as a tennis coach in the Amherst Central School District. I began teaching Kindergarden at Smallwood in 1996 and was also the Varsity Tennis Boys and Girls head coach during that time. In 2001, I took a few years off to raise my family and then returned to the Amherst Schools as the Pre-K coordinator when universal Pre-K began. I have been in that role for the last 14 years. I came back to coaching as the Amherst JV Boys Tennis Coach in Spring 2019 and am looking forward to working with the Girls JV Team this Fall.
A love of tennis began for me at the age of 7 when I began taking lessons. I have spent my youth playing at various clubs and competitions throughout the Buffalo area. I played Varsity Tennis for Sacred Heart Academy in high school, and continued on to play singles and doubles for SUNY Fredonia while in college. As a teenager and throughout my college years I spent my summers coaching for the town of Amherst. After college, I began playing USTA Team Tennis and play regularly at the Village Glen in a women's league. During the summer, I play several times a week and have run the Women's Tennis program at the Buffalo Canoe Club for the last 11 years.
Tennis has always been a passion for me and coaching allows me to share my knowledge and skills with students. Being part of our tennis team will give students the opportunity to play a lifelong sport that improves fitness and fosters teamwork while balancing their academic studies. I am excited for this season and look forward to seeing everybody on the courts!
