Community Education

The Amherst Central School District offers Community Education programs for youth. There is no residency requirement to participate in a community education session and the programs are open to all families in WNY.

Registration for summer programs begins in April. We also offer programs in the fall and winter. If you would like to be notified about upcoming programs (and are not an Amherst CSD parent), please join our Mailing List.

If you would like to teach a class through the Community Education program, please contact the office by phone or email to request a Course Proposal Form and Instructor Application.

Community Education Information

Refund Policy - Updated March 2025

No refunds will be processed unless the district changes the program or a medical reason exists.

No refunds will be given after the first session of a class. Exceptions to this policy can be made related to unforeseen circumstances (i.e., injury). Pro-rated refunds may be issued in cases of verifiable illness or injury (doctor’s note required) that prevents further participation in a course.

If the student has signed up for a class/course by mistake, misunderstood the course's description prior to registration, had a schedule change, failed to attend one or more sessions of that class/course, a refund will not be issued. It is the students' responsibility to clarify any misunderstanding regarding course content, program dates/times, transportation to and from class, and the location of class prior to registration.

If a refund request is approved, students will receive a refund via check or digital transaction. The amount refunded is equal to the cost of initial registration for that individual class/course minus a $10 payment/processing fee. The Community Education Liaison will provide additional details to the student before the refund is finalized.

Any exceptions to the refund policy are left to the discretion of the Community Education Liaison and are applicable to any situations not listed above.

If a course is cancelled by the Community Education office, each student will be entitled to a full refund.

Currently the Amherst Central School District's Community Education program offers sports camps for students in grades 1 - 12. We would like to gauge interest from the community regarding future programming for adults. We have developed an Amherst CSD Community Education Interest Survey to gather feedback.

Registration is Open!

If a camp has sessions by grade levels, register for the grade your child will enter in September.

Location: Smallwood Elementary School Gym, 300 Smallwood Drive, Amherst.

Boys and girls entering grades 1-3 and grades 4-6.
We will provide age-appropriate competitive contests every day. These include passing, agility, free throws, knockout, speed dribbling, shooting and actual games. We guarantee campers will have fun and be taught the fundamentals of basketball.

Beginner - Grades 1, 2, 3
8 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

Intermediate - Grades 4, 5, 6

A program for young athletes who want to learn the fundamentals of basketball, improve their skills and further develop on-court athleticism in a fun & engaging environment. This is a concentrated experience designed to accelerate the learning process through specific instruction, skill development and competition simulation. Participants will learn to improve their footwork, dribbling, passing and shooting through exciting drills, games and activities. Our goal is to use basketball to help kids build character and promote good sportsmanship and teamwork. Our coaching staff of current/former high school and college players, bring a dynamic energy that will motivate players to have fun and do their best while teaching them to play hard, play smart and have outstanding sportsmanship.

Location: Amherst Central High School South Gym, 4301 Main Street, Amherst.

The Amherst Tigers Basketball camp provides opportunities for young basketball players to develop skills and basketball IQ. Players will participate in games and tournaments. Emphasis will be placed on shooting, passing, rebounding, defense, fast break, the importance of conditioning while focusing on teamwork, self-discipline and respect.

July 16 - July 24 - Tennis Camp for Boys & Girls (3 sessions)

Location: Tennis courts at Amherst Central High School South Gym, 4301 Main Street, Amherst.

Weekly camps will focus on fundamentals including footwork, hand-eye coordination exercises, cardiovascular work, groundstrokes, volleys, overheads, serves, match play strategy, match play and fun games! A great way to introduce your child to the game of tennis, refine skills or get ready for the fall and spring seasons for girls and boys tennis.

Participate in just one camp, or choose several weeks. Offered on a weekly basis as a flexible alternative for busy summer schedules.

Boys and girls entering grades 5-12.
Beginner to Advanced skill levels. Maximum of 30 students per week.

Instructor: Dennis Bauer, coach of ACHS varsity wrestling.
Location: Sportsplex at Amherst Central High School, 4301 Main Street, Amherst.

Wrestlers will be matched by age and weight. This program is designed for students entering grades 1-6. Students with and without experience are welcome. Wrestling is a sport which offers many rewards. In addition to teaching fundamental skills of amateur wrestling our program stresses the importance of preparation, dependability, work ethic, resiliency, and determination, maintaining perspective and leadership.

August 4-6 - Boys Lacrosse

Location: Turf Field at Amherst Central High School, 4301 Main Street, Amherst. Use Westmoreland Road Entrance.

Boys entering grades K-6.
This three-day mini camp is designed for boys entering grades K to 6 who are interested in learning lacrosse and developing stick skills through fun drills, activities and mini games. Register for the grade level your child will enter in September 2026.

Beginner: Grades K - 2/3
8:30-10 a.m.
$75 includes a camp shirt.
No equipment needed but if you have a stick, please bring it!

Will need helmet, gloves, mouth guard, elbow pads, chest/shoulder pads, cleats, cup. We do not provide this equipment, it is the parent responsibility.

April 21 - June 25 - Open Gym Wrestling

There is no fee for this class - it is free for students with wrestling experience.

The Open Gym wrestling sessions are for students in grades 1-12 with previous experience in wrestling. To participate in Open Gym sessions, wrestlers must have completed one of the following -- either a community education wrestling youth program or participation in a modified, JV or varsity wrestling team. These sessions build off prior experience.
