Writer's Guild is a student group that likes to read, write, and listen to others read--it's like a writer's workshop. A typical meeting has students write a short response to a creative prompt, and then students read that response, if they chooses to (or can just listen to other students read their responses). Students can also read other pieces of writing--poetry, fiction, whatever--that they have written or simply enjoyed. The group also provides feedback to writers about their work. In short, Writer's Guild is a safe place for young writers to find their voice--whatever form that voice takes. The Guild meets every Tuesday after school in Room 220, but "members" can attend as their interest and schedules allow. Writer's Guild also helps support the school Poetry Out Loud contest (the first step in a national poetry recitation contest), the school's poetry slam in March, and publishes Writer's Ink, the school's creative arts magazine.
