Community Service & Internship

  • Community Service and Internship opportunities occur at various times throughout the school year.  Please check back often. Please be aware that the ACHS Communtiy Service Requirement of 20 hours must be completed in order to participate in our ACHS graduation June 29, 2019.

    Danceability Volunteer Opportunity: is looking for volunteers to help at their studio. No experience is necessary and you must be 16 yrs. of age. You can volunteer even one hour a week. Hours run from September - May. They will be holding open house on Thursday, Sept. 5th at 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Danceability is located at 2365 George Urban Blvd., Depew, NY 14043 or call (716)651-0094.

    Buffalo Walk to End Alzheimer's:  Would you like to help? Volunteers are needed on Sept. 14th at the Outer Harbor (325 Fuhrmann Buffalo.) They are looking for students who are willing to hold signs along the route or cheer walkers as they arrive at the end of the walk. The event will start at 10:00am. - 12:30pm.     Amherst Community Church: is offering community service hours to Amherst students through their child care program. The ACC is located next to the high school on Washington Dr. If you are interested stop by the church and ask for Andrea, Coordinator of the Child Care program.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie Countyare looking for volunteers who are junior or seniors. As a Big Brother or Big Sister you will have an opportunity to mentor a child who is dealing with issues at home and school. The friendship you will build with your Little Brother or Sister during the school year will make a Big difference in their life and in yours too! It's one day per week, you select the day & time; share planned educational & recreational activities with a child; a BBBS Site Coordinator will be present at each visit; great volunteer opportunity to do with a friend. For more information or to schedule a volunteer interview: 716-873-5833

    The Buffalo Niagara Heritage:  Village has opportunities for students to fulfill their community service hours. You can serve in many various ways, such as caring for artifacts at the Historical Museum, greet guests, maintenance work on the grounds and more. Holiday opportunities are also available.     The Central Amherst Little League:  An opportunity for high school students to complete community service hours, assisting their grounds crew with routine tasks like garbage pickup, field upkeep, lawn mowing, line painting, and other simple field work. The work directly benefits the community, as the fields are used by the Central Amherst Little League. at the end of your service, there may be an opportunity to continue working at Central Amherst in a compensated role.     St. Luke's Mission of Mercy: The mission is looking for volunteers on Saturday, April 6th to serve lunch and to all who come to the mission. The hours are 10am. to 1pm.     Catholic Health:  They are offering hours for the summer for ages 14 (entering 10th grade)-18 yrs. This is a way to give back to the community and to add to your college application. For locations and available hours and for an application visit their website at

    Amherst Tiger's Den Food Pantry:  Volunteer at Tiger's Den Food Pantry and earn community service hours. Volunteer tasks include helping clients shop for food, sort food, checking for expiration dates, restock and sort. The hours available are the 1st, 3rd Thursday of the month and if there's a 5th Thursday, that also would be available. Contact Carolyn Catalano at if you are interested.

    Villa Maria College:  Kim Kotz, a physical therapy professor is looking for students to help measure, seal and pack 147,000 dehydrated meals to be shipped to starving children around the globe. The drive benefits Feed My Starving Children serving Haiti and Nicaragua. Hours needed are Friday's from 6 to 8pm. and 11am to noon or 2:30 to 4:30pm. Saturdays.     YMCA:  Calling all volunteers, the YMCA is looking for students to help individuals with Parkinson's disease participate in a boxing instruction class. Volunteers must be 16 yrs. of age or older.
