Due to frequent changes in fashion, it is impossible to specifically describe all clothing styles that might be considered unacceptable to wear to school. Students should be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean, neat, and appropriate for the school setting. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Brief, see-through, or extremely tight-fitting garments including, but not limited to: tube tops, halter-tops, and tank tops of any kind.
- Pajama/lounge pants and slippers.
- Torn or altered clothing that is revealing or suggestive.
- Very brief shorts, skirts and dresses. Appropriate lengths of skirts, dresses, or shorts are to be below (not at) a student’s finger tips when standing or walking. This means if you need to pull down or shimmy a skirt, dress, or shorts before you see if it is past your finger tips it is not acceptable.
- Yoga pants, leggings worn as pants. Leggings or yoga pants must be covered by a skirt, dress, or shirt of an appropriate length.
- Visible undergarments.
- Hats, bandanas, hoods or outside jackets.
- Apparel or accessories that display any of the following: Obscene words, threatening pictures or designs, sexually explicit or suggestive remarks, promotion of alcohol, tobacco, drugs and/or weapons. Items that are vulgar, obscene, libelous, or denigrate others based on race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliate, age, military status, or disability are prohibited.
- Students are also required by state and local health regulations to wear footwear.
Students wearing clothing that is not in compliance with the student dress code will be offered an opportunity to change their clothes into something more appropriate. Any student who refuses this opportunity, or who violates the school dress code on more than one occasion may be considered insubordinate, and be assigned an appropriate consequence.
School administrators will make the final decision on any questionable dress code issues.
