Register for School - Registration Starts Online

The process of registering a child for Amherst Central School District begins online. Registration is complete when the online registration has been submitted and the required documentation has been veriﬁed at a scheduled in-person meeting. If you are unable to register online, please contact the Central Registration Clerk.

Residency Requirements for Enrollment: You must live within the school district boundaries and provide proof of residency to attend Amherst CSD schools. If you are unsure whether your residence falls within the district boundaries, please verify that you live in the district.

New or Returning Families

Parents/Guardians who have children new to Amherst CSD or are returning after having left the district.

Existing Families with Aspen Portal Accounts

Parents/Guardians who have children curently enrolled in an Amherst CSD public school and need to register an additional child.

Private, Parochial, Charter Families

Families who live in the ACSD district with children attending a private, parochial or charter school must register annually prior to April 1 or within 30 days of moving into district.

Required Documents

Two Proofs of Current Residency: The first proof of residency MUST be a mortgage statement, deed, property tax bill or lease.
The second proof of residency can be one of the following: pay stub, income tax form, utility or other bill, official driver's license, learner's permit or non-driver identification, or state/other government issued identification.

One Proof of Student Age: Birth certificate, record of baptism or passport.
The district may consider other documentation as acceptable proof of age if birth certificate, record of baptism or passport is not available.

Picture Identification of Parent/Guardian: Valid driver's license, non-driver ID card, passport or other photo identification.

Current Immunization Records: Within 14 days of the ﬁrst day of school, children must receive the ﬁrst age-appropriate dose in each immunization series to attend or remain in school. Every student entering or attending school is required to provide proof of immunization in accordance with the provisions of Public Health Law 2164.
New York State School Immunization Requirements

NYS Physical within the last 12 months: New York State law requires a health examination for ALL students entering the school district for the ﬁrst time. These examinations may be completed up to one year to the month before your child begins as an exam is valid for a full year through the last day of the month in which the exam was conducted.

Dental Exam Form: A dental certiﬁcate which states your child has been seen by a dentist or dental hygienist should be submitted for ALL students entering the school district for the first time.

How to Upload Documents

To register for school, you must upload required documents into Family Connection. Required documents include two proofs of residence, parent/guardian identiﬁcation, proof of student age and Health and Immunization Records.

If uploading from a computer: Select the upload button then locate the ﬁle you would like to upload. If the document has already been saved to your computer, find the location of the document, select it and choose open. This will upload the document.

If uploading document from your phone: Select the upload button in the application and choose the location where your document is saved. You can choose a document already saved or choose to take a picture of the document. Once you locate it, select the document and it will upload.

If you have moved and currently reside in the Amherst Central School District attendance area, as soon as possible you need to update your information by completing the Change of Address Form. This process must be completed in order to change your address for transportation purposes and it may take several days for bus routes to be changed.

Only the Central Registration Office can update an address.

Form: Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Household Income

Amherst Central School District is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). All children in the school will receive meals at no charge regardless of household income or completion of this form. This form is to determine eligibility for additional State and federal program benefits that your child(ren) may qualify for. Read the instructions on the back, complete only one form for your household, sign your name and return it with registration materials. Kindergarten & UPK

Kindergarten Registration Opens in March 2026

Kindergarten Registration will open in March 2026.
All families who live within the Amherst Central School District boundaries with a child who turns ﬁve on or before Dec. 1, 2026 are eligible to register their child for Kindergarten at Smallwood Drive or Windermere Boulevard Elementary Schools. If you are unsure whether your residence falls within the district boundaries, please verify that you live in the district.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

If your child currently attends an Amherst CSD UPK program, you do not need to register for kindergarten.
If your child attends a non-school preschool or is receiving special education services through our district, you are not automatically registered for kindergarten. You must register your child for Kindergarten. Upon completion of registration, you will receive information about the required Kindergarten Screening.

Universal PreKindergarten

Preschool Special Education Registration

The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) determines special education eligibility for children 3 to 5 years of age. An evaluation can begin at age 2 years 6 months. Children are identified as a Preschool Student with a Disability by meeting eligibility criteria as outlined by the New York State Education Department. Eligibility is determined by an individual evaluation administered by a multidisciplinary team. If eligible, special education services are provided within a continuum of services with consideration for the least restrictive environment. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed for each child meeting the eligibility criteria. The child’s program is reviewed at least once a year. Eligibility for summer services is determined by the CPSE. Not all children are eligible to attend the summer session.

Referral to the CPSE

Referrals are made in writing by parents, professionals, caregivers, program providers, or other individuals who are concerned about a child’s development.

Children transitioning from the Department of Health’s Early Intervention Program that serves infants and toddlers, birth through age two (2) may be referred to the CPSE by the early intervention services coordinator, upon parent consent.
