Patrick Kapperman Named High School Prinicpal

Patrick Kapperman, Amherst Central High School Assistant Principal, was appointed to the position of High School Principal by the Amherst CSD Board of Education on May 5, 2026.

Mr. Kapperman’s leadership will position us well to build upon the great educational foundation present at the high school. His deep knowledge of our district, the strong relationships he has built at the high school, and his passion for our students and families provide a solid foundation as he officially begins this new role on July 1.

An educator with 18 years of experience, Mr. Kapperman has spent the last 15 years in the Amherst Central School District in roles that span classroom teaching, special education and district-level administration.

As the assistant principal for curriculum and instruction for the past three years, he has broad experience in instructional leadership, implementation of curriculum initiatives, development of master schedules for staff and students, and coordination of the instructional support team intervention for at-risk students. He has supported the daily functions of the high school building operations, student management and personnel needs. He facilitated the launch of new Advanced Placement courses, expansion of dual enrollment, strengthened CTE programming and development of high-interest electives aligned to shifting graduation requirements.

He has broad expertise in special education at Amherst Central Schools with eight years as a high school special education teacher, while concurrently holding the role of special education department chair for three years. He was the assistant director for special education and pupil personnel services for four years before being named high school assistant principal in March 2023.

He began his teaching career in 2008 as seventh and eighth grade English teacher at Campus West Elementary School in Buffalo.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy from SUNY Buffalo and a master’s degree in Students with Disability: Adolescence from Canisius College. He earned a certificate of advanced study in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Canisius College.

Mr. Kapperman’s commitment to educational excellence will move us forward as we adopt the New York Inspires pathways to graduation and will guide the success for our next generation of Amherst graduates. He fills the position left vacant by the retirement of Amherst Central High School Principal Gregory Piegon, who is retiring at the end of June after 19 years as the high school principal.
