Zoe Simonson Selected as Ex-Officio Student Board Member at Amherst CSD

Zoe Simonson, a junior at Amherst Central High School, was selected as the 2026-27 Ex-Officio Student Board member of the Amherst Central Board of Education. She will begin her one-year term on July 1 and serve until June 30, 2027.

Active in many clubs, athletic teams and musical groups at school, she has a rigorous academic schedule of advanced placement coursework and maintains a high academic grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society (officer), Service and Social Justice Club, Pathfinders, Quiz Bowl (officer), Women for Change, Latin Club (officer), Spanish Club, and Spanish Honor Society. She plays varsity soccer and varsity track and field. She volunteers weekly as a soccer coach for the Amherst Soccer Association. She also volunteers through the Town of Amherst’s Youthworks Program to assist elderly community members. A talented violinist and pianist, she is a member of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, ACHS Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestra (concertmaster). She plans to major in public policy in college.

Zoe succeeds Olivia Hidalgo who served as the 2025-26 Ex-Officio Student Board member. School districts in New York State are required to have an ex-officio student representative on the Board of Education. The ex-officio student member of the Board will sit with Board members at all public meetings of the Board and participate in all Board hearings and meetings. The student member will not vote or attend executive sessions.
