Daniel Weinstein Appointed to Board of Education

Daniel Weinstein, Vice President of Enterprise Strategy at Highmark Health, was appointed to the Amherst Central School District Board of Education on Sept. 16 to fill the seat left vacant after board member Paul Steimle resigned to move out of state. Mr. Weinstein took the oath of office on Sept. 18 and his term runs through May 19, 2026, the date of the school budget vote and election.

Mr. Weinstein has extensive executive experience and co-leads the Strategy and Transformation Office at Highmark Health, overseeing enterprise-wide and long-term strategies, competitive intelligence, and strategic initiatives. He has driven major financial turnarounds, managed large teams, and formed impactful partnerships to enhance healthcare access and operational efficiency.

Born and raised in Amherst, he and his wife, Jamie, have two children, Spencer and Graham, who attend Amherst Central High School and Amherst Middle School respectively.

Prior to joining Highmark Health, he led corporate strategy functions at HealthNow (BlueCross Blue Shield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York), where he directed strategic planning, competitive intelligence, and enterprise risk management. He played a key role in HealthNow’s strategic affiliation with Highmark and managed the organization’s COVID-19 response. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles in government consulting, including managing multimillion-dollar contracts and briefing top decision-makers at U.S. Strategic Command and other federal agencies.

Dan holds an MBA from Canisius University, a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from Missouri State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from SUNY Buffalo. He is active in the community and is a graduate of Leadership Buffalo.

In filling a vacancy, the Board of Education may appoint someone, hold a special election or leave the seat vacant.
