A Collaborative Art Project with Windermere Second Graders

A collaborative project between second grade art classes at Windermere Boulevard and sixth grade art students at Amherst Middle School, based on the book "Poem Mobiles" resulted in some wonderfully unique 3D vehicles that were inspired by the elementary student's blueprint drawings.

Mr. Colantino and Ms. Gerbec’s second grade art classes read the book “Poem Mobiles” and were inspired to draw blueprints of a vehicle from the illustrations.

Mrs. Klein’s sixth graders then selected a second grade drawing and using recycled materials they created a 3-dimensional representation of the elementary vehicle. They finalized their piece by using paper-mache and paint. Students employed Design Thinking to assist in the drawing, planning & the assemblage-making process.

Pictured is the blueprint and 3D prototype of a Birthday Cake Excavator which is good for scooping ice cream!
