Orchestra Director is Quarterfinalist for GRAMMY Educator Award
Matt Pendrak, orchestra director at Amherst Central High School, is a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum. He is one of 219 music teachers from 204 cities reaching the quarterfinalist level. This is his second consecutive year as a quarterfinalist.
Pendrak teaches high school string students and conducts the Concert Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Operetta Pit Orchestra, and the Amherst Sinfonia. Within Amherst Central, Pendrak was the orchestra director at Amherst Middle School for five years.
The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. A joint partnership and presentation of the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum, the recipient will be recognized during GRAMMY Week 2021.
The award is open to current U.S. music teachers. Stay tuned, semifinalists will be announced in September.
