Award-Winning Composer Jake Runestad Works with ACHS Concert Chorale
Jake Runestad, an internationally renowned composer who has worked with leading symphony, opera and chorale ensembles around the world, visited Amherst Central High School to work with choral students as they are rehearsing one of his compositions, “Waves”.
At the invitation of Justin Pomietlarz, ACHS director of chorale activities and chairperson of the ECMEA Senior High All-County Chorus, Runestad’s visit to Amherst CHS coincides with this weekend’s ECMEA senior high all county chorus concert where Runestad will conduct a concert on March 26 at UB’s Slee Hall.
While at the high school, he worked with the concert chorale sharing several techniques that will assist in their performance of “Waves” later this spring. Watch a video of their session. He was also meeting with other groups of choral students during the day’s visit.
Runestad is considered one of the youngest full-time composers in the world. “The Hope of Loving,” the first album of Jake’s music, recorded by Craig Hella Johnson and Conspirare, received a 2020 GRAMMY award nomination. Having collaborated with leading ensembles and organizations around the globe, Jake has a versatile and prolific career creating works for orchestra, wind band, chorus, chamber ensembles, and opera.
