Fifth-Grader Gets Special Ride to School from Amherst Police

Student stands by police car Lily Martin, a fifth-grader at Smallwood Drive Elementary, got a special ride to school by Amherst Police officer Samantha Kozlowski as a reward for demonstrating good character at school. Lily was picked up at home and driven to school in an Amherst Police car because she received the Amherst Police School and Community Citation of Excellence.

The citation of excellence was created to honor a fifth grader who consistently displays the tenets of good character. Lily, who is in Mrs. Ramsey's class this year, was chosen because she consistently demonstrates honorable behavior to adults and her peers; she practices honesty, integrity, courtesy and kindness every day; she respects herself and others; she serves as a role model for others at Smallwood and she has excellent conduct in all areas of school.
