Digital Learning and Problem Solving in Second Grade
Combining digital learning and problem-solving, Library Media Specialist Chad Moser and Enrichment Teacher Lindsey Mack take second-graders through a unit using the ozobots. Students go through challenges where they have to code the ozobots to get to the finish line of the puzzle. Puzzles start out on the easy side but get difficult very quickly.
The lesson includes multiple opportunities for the students to use the problem-solving strategies they have been taught to work through the challenges without giving up when things get tough. Some of the strategies include trying something new, not giving up, or asking a friend for help. Teaching students the skills to solve problems is reinforced by the second-grade team who implement these problem-solving strategies in the classroom as well, so students have more real world practice in persevering.
