We're Not Afraid of Bugs!

Students touch bugs Beetle on a student's hand As an introduction to their unit of study on bugs and insects, Pre-K students had a visit from Ms. Catherine and some insects from the Bugworks room at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

The children were able to get up close with three stages of the darkling beetle: the mealworm (larva), chrysalis (pupa), and beetle (adult). They were introduced to the blue death feigning beetle who plays dead to avoid predators and the Madagascar hissing cockroach.

Some of the children were brave enough to touch the insects! Prior to the bug unit, students learned about life cycles and the needs of living things.
