Breaking Records, Achieving Lifetime Bests and Heating Up the Pool

Members of the Lady Tigers girls varsity swim team earned Section VI Class B championships and qualified for the New York state championships. Throughout their season, they have broken 13 pool records at various pools in Western New York, in addition to four more school records.


In the preliminary finals, pool records were broken by by Paige Smith who took the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle, while Grace Van Buren took the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle (Lead-off leg).


In the Section VI Class B finals, the Tigers started a collection of those highly sought after Section VI blue patches as the team won more events than other in the competition. Paige Smith took 1st in the 200 IM (school record) and 500 Freestyle. Grace Van Buren took 1st in the 50 Freestyle and 2nd in the 100 Butterfly (new school record and state cut). Carolyn DeBoth took 4th in the 100 Butterfly.


The relay team of Paige Smith, Maggie Parobek, Carolyn DeBoth, and Grace Van Buren once again doubled down as they took 1st in the 200 Freestyle (school record) and 400 Freestyle relays. Both relays were again under the NYS cut times.


team photo In addition, the rest of the roster achieved lifetime bests in their races. Swimmers who hit personal records included:

  • Tara DeBoth 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle

  • Madison Parobek 200 IM, 100 Butterfly
  • Carolyn DeBoth 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly
  • Paige Smith 200 IM 
  • Macayla Todaro 100 Backstroke
  • Lindsay DeBoth 50 Freestyle (lead-off leg)

"The ladies really demonstrated their ability to step up for the big meet. In a season that has seen the team continually experience success, the ladies decided to raised the bar. As a team, the girls have broken 13 pool records at various pools in Western New York in addition to four more school records," said Coach Mike Giancarlo. "The best part is they still have their eyes set on a few more!"


"This is truly a special group, not only in their accomplishments in the pool, but in how composed they are as young women. It is truly inspiring from a coaching perspective to see these ladies in action on a daily basis," he said.
