Amherst Central High School earned a 2019-2020 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence Award from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc. (NYSPHSAA).
The award recognizes 17 Amherst athletic teams who played in the fall 2019 and winter 2020 seasons. The spring 2020 season was not considered for the award because it was cancelled.
To earn the School of Excellence Award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must qualify and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award. Individual teams can qualify for Scholar-Athlete team recognition if the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster is greater than or equal to 90.00.
The purpose of the award is to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor. Amherst was one of 17 schools within Section VI to earn the School of Excellence status.
