Anna Wheat Impressive at State Tennis Tournament

Anna Wheat was one of 4 singles players from Section 6 to qualify for the State Tournament in Schenectady, NY. This is the first time since the mid 90's that a female singles player has qualified for this event. The State competition features 32 of almost 6,000 tennis players across the state plus New York City and Long Island. This puts Anna in the top 1% of tennis players in the state. As a senior, this would be impressive. As a sophomore, this is spectacular.

Anna played a great season and played the #1 player in the state in the first round. It was an unlucky draw but if you are going to lose a match in the state tournament, why not let it be against the best player? Anna played really well, keeping up with such a distinguished player. She lost the match 6-0 6-2. While that seems like a score that is not close, every point in this match was contested. It is rare for a #1 seed to lose a game at all in the first few rounds. Anna managed to win 2 and got to deuce on several other games.

She represented her family, her school and community admirably. If you see her in the hallway, make sure you congratulate her on a phenomenal season.
