Dr. Lynn Shanahan Named Assistant Superintendent

Amherst Central School District has hired Dr. Lynn E. Shanahan as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology at Amherst Central School District, effective July 1. She will be responsible for developing key aspects of the district's Strategic Plan in the areas of curriculum, professional development and technology integration.


Dr. Shanahan is a familiar face at ACSD having partnered with the district to provide literacy curriculum professional development through her position as an associate professor in the Department of Learning and Instruction at the University at Buffalo.


For the past 12 years, she has also conducted research focused on the integration of technology, literacy, and professional development resulting in seven peer reviewed journal articles and four book chapters as well as grant funding. She has written and published extensively in academic journals on the topics of comprehension, video pedagogy, science and engineering, technology, and digital tools.


Her expertise spans developing leadership infrastructure and classroom practices to building curriculum to teaching a doctoral course at UB, where she has earned numerous teaching awards. She was invited to the 2015 National Technology Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. as part of the STEM teacher preparation strand, as well as a 2017 National Science Foundation workshop.


She earned her Ph.D. in reading education from UB, her master's in education from Pennsylvania State University and her bachelor's in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned her advanced certification in school district leadership from Niagara University. Prior to her 2005 hiring as a professor at UB, she was an instructor at Daemen College and an elementary school teacher with Sweet Home Central School District. She was also the Assistant Superintendent of Professional Development at Enterprise Charter School for one year.


Dr. Shanahan fills the position of assistant superintendent Dr. Ryan Schoenfeld who became superintendent July 1 at Ardsley Union Free School District in Westchester County.
