Students from Amherst Central High School participated in Challenge 2 Change at Daemen College, joining students from several Western New York school districts to explore and discuss issues related to racial understanding.

The event, held by Amherst Central School District in the past, was hosted by Williamsville Central School District in collaboration with the University at Buffalo School of Social Work and the Town of Amherst. Its mission is to create a group of student leaders that can discuss difficult societal issues in a meaningful and positive way.

Throughout the day, students participated in healthy dialogue and talked on topics such as comfort zones, social identities and the vocabulary of change.

Kara Oliver, assistant director of the Niagara University Opportunity Program, spoke for the event’s keynote. She delivered a passionate talk about how students should never lose the light to explore and be open-minded within them.
