UPK Registration Applications Due by March 8
Registration applications for the Amherst Central School District universal pre-kindergarten program for the 2019-2020 academic year are available online or at the Early Childhood Education Center at Windermere Boulevard Elementary.
Applications are due by March 8. This free half-day program is open to any four-year-old child that resides within the district. The child must be four by Dec. 1, 2019.
The program offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum with a focus on early literacy and mathematical skills taught by NYS certified teachers. Other key components of the program include the social, emotional and cultural development of the child.
The program operates out of three sites – Windermere Boulevard Elementary School at 291 Windermere Blvd., Amherst Community Church Child Care Center at 77 Washington Highway, and Amherst Nursery School at 350 Saratoga Road.
Transportation is provided to and from the Windermere site only. Parents are responsible for transportation at the Amherst Community Church and Amherst Nursery School sites.
Placements are not guaranteed because class sizes are limited. Tentative placement letters will be sent to families and you will be assigned a registration appointment time either March 25 at Smallwood or March 26 at Windermere. Universal pre-kindergarten orientation for parents will be held Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Windermere Boulevard Elementary School.
As a result of the program being funded by grants, definite confirmation will only occur after the New York State budget is passed and Universal Pre-Kindergarten funding is guaranteed. For more information about registration, call 362-4182.
UPK applications are accepted throughout the year and children will be placed as spots are available.
