Farm-to-School Lunch Offered March 21

A farm-to-school lunch menu will be served on Thursday, March 21 in all four cafeterias at Amherst Central School District as part of the first Erie County New York Thursday Farm-to-School. The menu will feature all-beef hot dogs from Slate Foods, a New York grown and certified beef producer;  cabbage from Russel Farms in Appleton; potatoes from Bippert Farm in Elma; concord grape juice slush from Welch’s Juice in Westfield; and milk from Upstate Niagara Cooperative in Cheektowaga. The program is coordinated through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County.


“By purchasing and serving more  foods grown in New York, schools help support our local agricultural economy, and provide students with fresh, nutritious foods and education about where food comes from,” said Susan Sheehan, Amherst CSD school lunch manager. “We strive to serve as many New York products as possible throughout the entire school year. In our district we always serve New York milk and apples and depending on the menu, vegetables and other locally grown foods are incorporated into the offerings.”
