Representing Amherst Schools at Corporate Challenge Championship
Four Amherst Central School employees took their love of running all the way to San Francisco to represent the district at the Corporate Challenge championship.
Amy Fakterowitz, a third-grade teacher at Windermere Boulevard Elementary, was captain of the women’s team that qualified through the Buffalo Corporate Challenge 3.5 mile race in June. Rounding out the team was Dr. Maria Oddo, special education coordinator, Michelle Brinkworth, a third-grade teacher at Smallwood Drive Elementary and Christine Sullivan, an English teacher at Amherst Central High School.
The championship is held each year in a different city around the world. This is Amherst's sixth time qualifying for the championship and a team has competed in South Africa, Frankfurt, Rochester, and San Francisco twice. It was Dr. Oddo’s first championship while Mrs. Brinkworth has gone three times and Ms. Sullivan has gone twice. The trip is sponsored and paid for by JP Morgan Chase.
“We do this because we want to represent the district on a global stage and we all love running. We hope to be good role models for the kids. Plus, it's been a great way to see the world!” said Ms. Fakterowitz, who has raced in six championship contests in the U.S. and abroad.
